Twentynine Palms is home to the largest desert warfare training facility in the country. We are proud of the men and women that serve our country. This military base has marines and navy forces and has a great Navy hospital which opened in 1952.
The city was founded in 1852 and was named after the Oasis of Mara. It began as a mining town searching for gold, silver, and copper. This city is the gateway to the Mojave National Preserve and has the easterly entrance to the Joshua Tree National Park. There is a campground and hiking at Indian Cove, and the famous 29 Palms Inn has been a fixture since 1928 and has excellent lodging and a beautiful oasis.
This is a bustling city with over 26,000 residents and is an extremely popular retirement community, as it is clean and affordable. Some great news here is that the city has an active redevelopment plan for the city and is opening new restaurants and shops continually. There is a casino located here, too, the Tortoise Rock Casino, which has live music performances on its outside stage. Don’t miss the Oasis of Murals; they were created on buildings across the city in 1995 and hold historical meaning to the city as well. A truly diverse city and a great place to call home.
